Flying Baton Publications respects the privacy of visitors, customers, creators, and correspondents. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Flying Baton Publications website and direct webstore, why we collect it, how it is used and protected, and the choices available to you.
Our Privacy Approach
We aim to collect only the personal information reasonably needed to operate the website, complete transactions, provide continuing access to purchases, communicate about those purchases, and respond to inquiries. We do not sell or rent personal information.
Information You Provide
When you contact Flying Baton Publications, we may receive your name, email address, the contents of your message, and other information you choose to provide. We use that information to respond to you and deal with the matter you raised.
When you make a direct purchase, we may collect or receive information needed to create and support the order, including your email address, order number, purchased product or product ID, purchase date, amount paid, payment status, and a transaction reference supplied by our payment processor.
Flying Baton Publications does not receive or store your full payment-card number or card security code. Payment credentials are handled by our payment-processing provider.
Purchases and Your Shelf
Your purchase email is retained with your order and purchase record so that Flying Baton can confirm what you purchased, provide access to Your Shelf, help recover lost purchases, and provide the latest edition of a publication you own.
Your Shelf does not require a customer password. When you return to Your Shelf, you may be asked to enter your purchase email and use a temporary secure verification link sent to that address. Verification links are intended only to establish that the person requesting access controls the email address associated with the purchase.
Flying Baton may send transactional or service messages relating directly to a purchase, including order information, access or recovery messages, corrections, revised-edition notices, or other communications reasonably necessary to fulfil or support that purchase. These messages are separate from promotional newsletters.
Newsletter and Marketing Consent
Purchasing from Flying Baton does not automatically subscribe you to promotional email. If you choose to receive Flying Baton news or new-release information, you must opt in separately.
Where you opt in, we may retain your email address together with information showing when and how consent was obtained. We may use an email-service provider to maintain and deliver the mailing list and process unsubscribe requests. You may withdraw your marketing consent at any time using the unsubscribe mechanism provided in promotional messages. Unsubscribing from marketing does not cancel your purchase records or your access to Your Shelf.
Shopping Cart and Browser Storage
The website uses local browser storage to remember items placed in your shopping cart and other preferences needed for ordinary site operation. Cart information is stored on your browser or device and may persist until you remove it, clear site data, or the website changes the stored information.
Flying Baton Publications does not use behavioural-advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies for the purpose of profiling visitors.
Information Collected Automatically
Our hosting, security, and technical service providers may automatically receive limited technical information when the site is accessed, such as an IP address, browser or device information, request information, and security or diagnostic data. Such information may be processed for website delivery, security, fraud prevention, troubleshooting, and aggregate operational analysis.
Service Providers
Flying Baton uses trusted third-party services where necessary to operate the website and webstore. These services provide website hosting and storage, payment processing, transactional email, mailing-list delivery, contact-form handling, and authorized sales or distribution.
Cloudflare hosts the Flying Baton website and provides services used to securely store webstore purchase records and digital publication files. Stripe processes payments made through the Flying Baton webstore. Brevo provides transactional email and optional mailing-list delivery. These service providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform the services for which they are used.
Some service providers may process or store information outside Canada. Information handled in another jurisdiction may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction. Flying Baton remains responsible for personal information under its control and selects service providers with appropriate privacy and security practices.
Third-Party Marketplaces and Websites
The Flying Baton catalogue may also link to third-party publishers, retailers, marketplaces, streaming services, social-media platforms, and other websites. Purchases or activity on those services are governed by their own privacy policies and terms. Flying Baton does not control the privacy practices of third-party websites.
How We Use and Disclose Personal Information
We use personal information only for identified and reasonable purposes, including completing and supporting purchases, maintaining records of direct purchases, providing secure access to digital products, responding to inquiries, operating and securing the website, maintaining business and accounting records, sending service messages connected with a purchase, and sending promotional email where express consent has been provided.
We may disclose information to service providers as described above, to professional advisers where reasonably necessary, or where disclosure is permitted or required by law. We do not sell or rent personal information.
Retention
Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, to meet legal or accounting obligations, or to provide an ongoing service requested by the customer.
Order and purchase records may be retained for an extended period because Flying Baton offers continuing recovery and access to directly purchased digital publications. Newsletter-consent records may be retained as necessary to demonstrate consent or withdrawal of consent. Information that is no longer required will be deleted, anonymized, or otherwise securely disposed of where appropriate.
Security
Flying Baton uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information under its control. These may include restricting administrative access, multi-factor authentication, private file storage, server-side authorization checks, limited-purpose credentials, secure connections, and the use of established payment and infrastructure providers.
No method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure. If Flying Baton becomes aware of a security incident involving personal information, we will investigate, document, mitigate, and provide any notifications or reports required by applicable law.
Your Privacy Choices and Access Rights
You may contact Flying Baton Publications to ask what personal information we hold about you, ask how it has been used or disclosed, request correction of inaccurate information, or request deletion where deletion is appropriate and not inconsistent with continuing access to a purchase, a legal obligation, or another legitimate requirement.
If you no longer control the email address associated with a purchase, contact us. We may ask for reasonable information needed to verify the original transaction before changing the email associated with a purchase.
Children’s Privacy
The site contains material of interest to schools, churches, families, and young performers, but it is not designed to collect personal information specifically from children. A child should not submit personal information or make an online purchase without the involvement and permission of a parent, guardian, teacher, or other responsible adult as appropriate.
Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated as the Flying Baton website, webstore, service providers, or legal requirements change. The date shown at the top of the page indicates the most recent revision.
